Hello TR7r's.
Well, it has been some time since we last posted on "Thinking about where to start restoring the TR7" from 2020. Huge success and been driving since.(Search the forum if you are interested). Thanks to all who helped out!

We are now onto fixing relays and intermittent flashers, horn, interior lights etc.

Wondering if you folks could help identify/confirm the 9 relays/switches in the dash?

I've labelled them 1 to 9 and have so far found them as follows on the Haynes electrical wiring diagram:
#1 Hazard Flasher Unit = #54 Haynes
#2 Headlamp Motor Circuit Breaker = #30 Haynes
#3 RH headlamp Run/stop relay = #29 Haynes
#4 Horn Relay = #57 Haynes
#5 LH headlamp Run/Stop relay = #31 Haynes
#6 Starter Relay = #3 Haynes
#7 ???
#8 Brake Light Switch = ? Haynes
#9 Nothing attached to it?

So far so good?

Judging by the fuses yours is late vehicles US model.
This is out of the Repair Operation Manual if that's of any help.

Hello Micheal.
Thanks for sending the diagram. Yes, that is the fuse box.
Would you have a diagram for the relays behind the steering wheel?

#9 is the original turn signal flasher unit.

The original hazard flasher unit is #1.

It appears that #9 (original turn signal flasher) died and was replaced by #7, which is a generic 2 pin flasher unit from an auto parts store. This would explain why no wires are going to #9, as the wires have been rerouted to #7.

Hello Vance.
Yes, I think you have nailed it.
I bunch of these relays are intermittent and I don't love the original fuse box location. So going to move the fuse box inside the glove box so there is enough room for my big fingers smiling smiley

Thanks,

Hmmmm, this is what happens when it is minus 10 outside and curiosity on our minds: Pulled the floor and dash.
If we are going to fix the wiring and fuse box, may as well be suresmiling smiley.

Lots to work on: Good chance to clean out the pinecones, mouse crap, and explore a mysterious blue wire mashed into a connector and then used somewhere in the engine bay. Also, going to wire in a proper stereo with tweeters, door speakers and a subwoof under the seat. Going to clean up the carpets and try dying them back to blue much like R Truett did in part 11 of "Project TR7 shifting priorities".
If anyone has advice please chime in.

In your humble opinion, would you put down additional sound proofing before reinstalling the carpet? is it worth it?
Thanks,

I reckon the Jlue wire mashed into the connector to a Green wire is to power something only when ignition goes on with the key. Almost OEM quality in that connection it must be said. winking smiley)

Continuing to sort out some mysterious wiring. Seems its previous life(s) saw some splicing of turn signals and wipers switches.

Curious is anyone know what the two wires to the left of the steering column do? Black orange and Black Green.
Found them on the wiring diagram as #38 door switch and #39 Key Switch.

Thanks,

If folks are curious, we put down a layer of sound barrier under the carpets. Rather easy to order (3 days from amazon.ca) and easy to install (2 hours). We preheated/warmed the sheets which made smoothing them out much easier.

Then pulled wires for future door speakers, dash tweeters, rear speakers and a small subwoofer.

Micheal, you'd be happy to know that we've sorted out the Rogue blue wire and restored to OEM standardssmiling smiley

Thanks,

Paul, the two switches work together to cause the buzzer to buzz if the key is in the ignition and you open the driver's door to leave.

Cheers, Dave

Thanks Dave. The buzzer is unhooked and not really needed at this point, so will leave the wires "as is".

Dash is now back in, carpets complete, and new LED bulbs in the console. Will test run tomorrow night.

While not directly related to wiring, we decided to re and re the front end with new bushings and ball joints.
The picture tells the story between the old sway bar bushing and the new one.
Hope to reduce some of the 90kph steering wobble that we all know and dislike smiling smiley
