Some PO had installed very long and very cheap battery cables. Both had been literally wadded up and zip tied to reduce the length. The secondary ground was connected with two gauges of wire twisted and taped together with no actual connector, just semi-twisted together
.
I decided I wanted a battery cut off on the ground and at first got one of those cheap dial things that mount to the negative post and really didn't like it. So I did some research and bought some 2 gauge welding lead, copper eyelets and this heavy duty terminal post kit :https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00X36RILW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I know that is overkill but that's sort of what I'm going for for safety and reliability reasons. I cut and soldered all the cables and I have a plan for how I will tie in the battery hold down bar to the switch mounting plate (more on this later) that should keep it out of the way enough for the bonnet to close unimpeded. The switch I chose is the Flaming River one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HM579K/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I agonized over trying to position the battery switch in the passenger compartment somewhere and just didn't see how I could do it and be happy with it. I'll revisit that after I get the interior done.
