When I first got the car it came with a "matching" Edelbrock air cleaner. However, when I showed the car to a racer friend of mine he stated that "that air cleaner is super restrictive and it would be better without any air filter than to use that thing".
So, he mentioned that he has a nice K&N air cleaner assembly that I could look at and buy from him if it happens to fit. Well, it fit nicely, though not perfectly, so I bought it and figured on modifying it to fit. The air cleaner assembly came with a spacer ring that made the air cleaner sit too high on the engine such that it would rub the hood scoop. I measured the height that would allow for clearance with the hood scoop and also allow for no interference with the carb linkage.
I just got back from the machine shop and they were able to machine the spacer ring down to 0.5 inches which allows the air cleaner to fit like a glove. I have included some pics to show the before and after process.
Any and all comments are welcome!
