It felt like I didn't get much done today, but after looking at today's pictures I did. I had set a goal of finishing up the driver's side frame repair this weekend, thinking that I might get as far as one side and the last patch made. But I almost accomplished my goal.
I trimmed out the remaining rusty bits. Made up a cardboard pattern and then used it to trim the larger patch piece I hammered out previously (like the outer side). It seemed to take more fiddling than usual, but it went in pretty well. The welds were pretty good and I only had to touch up the inside in a couple of spots.
With that sorted, I decided to add a small patch on the forward edge of the hole to restore some of the rusty metal I took out. That complete, I started making the last patch to go on the bottom (but since the frame is upside down, it is actually the part shown on the top in the pictures).
I probably got about 1/3rd of the welding done before my wife got home, so things in the garage came to a close.
I think it turned out to be a pretty productive day. More bites of the elephant.
