There is also a parts manual that is very helpful in identifying part numbers and identifying hardware plus all the other bits...as they say..

David,
The opinions in the Triumph world are about the same as in MG world, the Bentley and or ROM are much more comprehensive than the Haynes which is more of a basic day to day maintenance guide. Personally I prefer the Bentley over the Haynes or the ROM because it not only includes the ROM but the Driver's Handbook as well but I do have a Haynes which I use occasionally as a quick reference guide.

The most useful tool in my shop I used during my restoration was an old used laptop ($50). One step further would be to add a cheap flat screen tv as your monitor. Mount it up in a convenient location and forget about all the books that would get destroyed by your greasy fingers...everything you need is on the web - including all the info you need for cross referencing part numbers and looking up potential replacements on Ebay, Robsport etc etc. Plus you'll be able to zoom in on wiring diagrams (some enhanced and colorized), schematics and all the other reference material that is out there.

David,
To each his own. I prefer books, but have used on line sources when I haven't felt I'd get enough use to buy the book. So use what you prefer.
That said, Haynes, IMHO, just isn't worth the money. I'm not even sure if they ever published a version specific to the TR8. The TR7 version would I suppose help where both cars are the same. I have also come to mistrust Haynes. A few years I looked at Haynes on changing the fuel filter on my '04 Ford. The maintenance chapter referred me to the fuel injection chapter and the fuel injection chapter referred me to maintenance. What a hoot! But you're paying good money for shoddy editing.
I think you will find the factory manual very adequate, and readily available online if you prefer hard copy. You also might want to take a look at Gene Thompson's WedgeLab. I do find his schematics easier to use than the factory ones. I had the file printed on 11x14 paper and find it way convenient to have it right with me at the car. Your car will need electrical work, sooner or later.
Good luck with your TR8, David. They are fun cars.
John

Yes, this one. So much easier to flip back and forth between pages and you can write notes to yourself right on the pages with ease. PDFs are a PAIN IN THE ASS! - Pete
