I would put a new roll pin in to replace the rusty one. The cap had a flat finish so I would just take a cloth buffing wheel in a drill and polish it to remove the road grime while the roll pin is out. I wouldn't overdo the cloth wheel as it can burn through. I ruined the Jaguar hood ornament on my only Jag years ago by being too aggressive with a cloth wheel. I still have the ornament but the Jag is long gone. Is the seal on the inside good or does that need attention?

I have a cap the same as that, it was a magnetic one, but I ruined it. Mine had a pit in the white metal surface that I thought I could grind then polish out. But the pit went so deep the cap became paper thin. Also the surface has a patina finish that is impossible to reproduce once you polish through.

Removal of the gouges will require filing and block sanding, taking out the factory finish like it or not. These can be polished bright in bare aluminum mode and then dulled by your choice of method. I use superfine sandpaper followed by metal polish on my '250 caps which are similar, and installed stainless pins. Mimicking the factory finish is a trick known to few ( not me ) but I was never much of a fan anyway, dull as it is and not matched to the rest of the finished exterior parts.
This is the best pic I have handy; no closeups.

Mike, you asking about the smaller internal seal in the cap or the large seal between the filler cap and the car body?
Check out Anglo Parts link below. Either item 17 or 50 if you are looking for the smaller seal in the filler top cap. I can't tell which one it is from their illustration. Price isn't too bad but the shipping will likely double the cost. The seal on my 70 GT6 is only in fair condition. May have to turn the 3D printer on and make one in polyurethane which has good gasoline resistance.

I decided to give up on the stock style of gas caps, for one reason, some of the replacement seals are very difficult to find. I chose to buy an Aston style gas cap from Ebay, comes from India, free shipping for $55. My son turned up the threaded alum adapter for the 2" OD fuel filler sleeve for me. Here are some pics of the unit and shown temporarily in place on car.

I suspect that Mike is talking about the small seal in the filler cap, about 2" diameter, that seems to be the one not easily found in the states. The larger seal (right), Paul is showing is available from Moss (#680-585) and TRF (#622683). From my research, that small seal in the cap was only used on the late 69 and 70 GT6. Appears to be NLA.

Just removed the seal from my 70 GT6. I believe this is the seal in question. Mine is "tender" after 50 years. Need to fix this. It's about 2-1/16 in diameter with a 1" hole through it.
