I am slowly putting my front end back together and it does not look like the disk shield will fit over the new rotors. Does one need to mod the shield or get different ones?

I guess the obvious question is what diameter are the rotors? The common big brake kit (I sourced mine from a well known source on this board) for TR8s is using modern Mini front rotors that are about 11.5" diameter. TR8 dust shields fit over those rotors (see below).

Your dust shields look to be TR7ish..not sure they they are the same size. You may need to source TR8 shields or modify your existing. I guess the 'shop' you purchased this from left that detail out??

I have the TWS Wilwood kit and did need to cut some off the shields around the calipers and grind down some high spots that hit the rotor . Your shields look different than mine , no venting for cooling . You can see the air deflectors on the blue car .
I would like to hear more about the Mini rotors , what calipers are you using ?

John - the kit I installed is using Wilwood Dynalite calipers - much like the other kits offered. They were of a complete kit purchased from a well known contact on this board. Known as 'Greg's big brake kit', if you search that in this forum, that should lead you to the contact info. It fit without any modifications. The rotors shown in the pic I sourced separately to match the rears, but to the same dimensions as the rotors included in the kit from a new generation Mini Cooper. I also converted to 4X100 mm hubs - done by the same guy who put this kit together.

I still have the original front rotor set from the kit I might try selling.

I was looking for something to replace the rotors if I had problems with them . Not looking to change the hubs too , I have some nice wheels and tires .

Need to correct my earlier reference to the big brake kit: It's Glen's Big Brake kit, not Greg...searching under that name will lead you in the right direction.

Ditto for Glen's kit. Also those shields don't look like TR8 items. Thanks, Rob

Are the shields necessary?

Back when I raced MG's, we usually left them off our competition cars for improved brake cooling.

Given our TR8's are mostly now "occasional" use cars... driven mainly on good roads on nice days, do we need them?

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain, folks. grinning smiley

I have seen Rob's car, and it is now so heavily modified that that it is a Group 44 race car in everything but name only. His recommendations should be confined to the "Triumph Performance" section!

Bowen and TR8 Todd are the maniacs of the group, like two peas in a pod. Perhaps they are identical twins separated at birth. confused smiley

Just sayin'...

Yes Vance we were separated at birth, he to the "do whatever you want" East Coast and me to the "even think about doing anything and you go to jail" West Coast. Thanks, Rob
