We certainly have our share. Problem is I haven't been able to drive my car much so there hasn't been a lot of opportunity for the grime to build. As soon as I started to drive it in the fall, the gearbox went. Had it rebuilt and after being under the car re-installing it, doing other incidental repairs, and then making those heat shields, I couldn't resist the urge wipe down the underside.

Canadians are apparently very fastidious. Or are you anal-retentive as a result of being an abused child? spinning smiley sticking its tongue out

Me, I don't bother with such things. I learned long ago that if you give a British car TLC, they come to expect it and begin breaking down regularly if you don't wash and wax them at least once a week. Better to abuse them so they know what is in store should they misbehave. angry smiley

I predict a major failure in your future as a result of your display of automotive kindness. You have been warned! grinning smiley

Well, definitely a Type A personality and that will be my undoing with this car. I have grown to appreciate that there will not likely be a time when I can just relax and enjoy the car. My efforts to get everything buttoned up have routinely been thwarted.

Having used my TR8 drop-top as a daily driver from about 2019 to early 2021, and can tell you that those heat shields are definitely needed. I also think that the TR8 actually needs more heat shields (or more effective ones). During spring and summer driving here in Louisiana, my cabin got pretty warm, especially at your feet. I had the same tunnel shield you mention, but the factory shields for the catalytic converters and the dual exhaust were long gone (the exhaust from the crossover pipe/mufflers back had been replaced by a previous owner). I am definitely looking into improving the heat shields, adding some type of thermal mat under the carpet, and replicating the factory muffler heat shields. Anyone use dynamat or a similar material on the cabin floor and firewall under the carpet? Does anyone still have the factory exhaust with full length heat shields still on their TR8? Do they help with cabin heat?

Here are a couple of pics of my 8 done two years ago, I still have all the original shields underneath, no problem with heat in the cockpit.
Cheers
Tom

Tom,
Just WOW! That's a lot of insulation you have there. I thought about doing some of that, but in my post I was asking if anyone still had all the factory exhaust heat shields that ran from the catalytic convertors all the way to the mufflers. I was curious if that was effective. However, I am sure the insulation you did probably works better than what the factory did. Nice, neat job. Who makes the insulation that you used?

Pretty easy stuff to install, included are pictures of the heat shields, hard to photograph with the drivetrain in place. Also a pic of the mat I used.
I put a mounded carpet ( from Oz) overtop.
Cheers Tom
