1957 Triumph TR3 "STOLEN - October 2021"
1967 Austin Mini
1967 Austin Mini Cooper
I live in Charleston,WV and my 1957 TR3 and my friend's 1967 TR4 were both STOLEN from the garage where we kept them sometime in November. 2021.......Both were green with black interiors.......My TR3 has been sitting for many years and needed engine and brake work before it could be driven.......The TR4 was in proper running order..........Somebody worked very hard to steal these two cars for what it would seem to be a limited use: how much market would there be for TR3 or TR4 parts locally here in West Virginia?........So, his is an appeal to all to let me know if any notice of these two Triumphs would come up anywhere..............please contact me at: zero250@yahoo.com...........or call and text to (304) 419-1900......thanks!

Was the garage broken into? Filed a police report?

From your description it sounds like they would have needed a trailer(s) as well as possibly inside knowledge that the cars were there. Many folks don't even know what these cars are and have little idea of their value and would have no idea or interest in parting them out. Must have been someone with special knowledge because regular car thieves go for the popular modern cars where they can take the car to a chop shop for parting out.

Hi Jeff:
I'm in St. Albans. I'm always searching for parts to finish a '59 project. I posted this on the local LBC FaceBook page?

Strange. Like you said, a very limited market, even for parts. In fact, domestically I bet they are un-marketable for the thieves.

What are the TS numbers?

That may help someone spot them if they come up for a quick sale.

Hi Jeff and Friend. Firstly let me say I'm sorry for the loss ( THEFT) of your respective classics, its a shock to open the doors to find it empty. I had an MG A, stolen in New York in 1967, I know who stole it but the police were not interested in my loss, I even remember the policemans name Cooperman. I'm sent daily classic cars for sale here in Europe over the internet, and saw a car, MG A, identical to the one stolen 55 years ago, my MG A had been painted, BRG, a one off at that time, I got in touch with the seller, who told me it was a European car, and had not ever been registered in the States. I hope you have more luck than I, in finding the thieves, good luck. Stay safe and well. Yours Alan Foreman. Spain

Jeff, so sorry to hear about this... Not the brightest thieves, I'd say. Hard to steal, hard to store, hard to sell to a limited market. I wonder if they didn't go right on a truck to another state?

Anyway, I wanted to suggest you set up several Google Alerts (https://www.google.com/alerts) using keywords about your cars and their info. Google will then send you an email for any matches. I use this to monitor my phone and SSN, should they ever pop up somewhere they shouldn't. You'll get a lot of false-positive hits, but it may turn up something.

Good luck!

I wonder if it has to do with the $50k sale last month? These are very easy cars to re-number if the values get high enough. Change the commission plate and give a car a fresh coat of paint and it becomes a different car with no way to prove otherwise...

That sucks!
Will keep ears and eyes open.
Thinking there might be someway to mark or otherwise track them in the event the comm numbers or else go missing

As John mentioned, would be easy to change vin tags and resell. A few comestic changes and it would be hard to prove otherwise. Do hope you find them.

FWIW remember , the frames are numbered under the radiator....maybe something the thieves will overlook... maybe British heritage can help .... I have always made it a point to record the frame numbers...
fingers crossed for a safe homecoming

The frame number was to track the mods...not individual frames. In other words, several thousand frames share each of the different frame numbers, so little help there.

Not much help in your situation but something to keep in mind.
When I was doing the trim work during my restoration I put my name, phone number and the date on the back of several pieces of the card material. A way to help prove it was your car if the vin tag had been changed.

Like David, I printed the commission number at a number of hidden locations around the car, including on the gas tank behind the trim panel. I also made a stamped metal tag which I affixed to the frame.

I'm no Sherlock Holmes, but you might inquire at various businesses and homes in the vicinity of the storage garage. Many of them have surveillance cameras than run day and night and one of them might have captured something - like a license plate number or vehicle description.

Good luck.
