I'm a total Spitfire addict and almost picked up this stunning example. Long story short, a seller with a sizeable collection of cars, including a very nice MGB GT... was selling this lovely Mk3. Great condition, missing minor stuff... and man was I tempted...

The great news is that the car changed hands for a very fair price... and the guy who picked the car up is from my home town, so that brings us up to around 5 triumph owners in the area! Man but these cars are addictive!

Sounds like a better deal than the 12,000USD car with the Nissan engine.

I'm curious. How much did it go for?

Best,

It went for 75 000 South African Rands. Which is around 6000 USD at today's exchange rate. Fair price in my opinion for a MK3 in SA.

Thanks. Yes, sounds fair to buyer and seller. I keep expecting to see prices--especially for the older, well sorted round tails--go up, but the market just doesn't seem to appreciate them. I guess I won't rely on my Spits to fund my retirement. winking smiley

In South Africa, the round tail Spits, particularly the MK3's are very common. The 4/1500 very rare, so prices are higher. All comes down to supply and demand. The lease I paid for a MK3 was the light blue car, which I picked up in running condition for around 2500 USD. The most I paid for the latest Mk3 was around 8000 USD for a car in concourse condition, and over drive box. They definitely are appreciating slowly, but as you mention I am also not bargaining in them being my retirement. My biggest issue is affordable storage for the cars, as a rental garage for each car will cost a ton. I'm busy erecting a large enough building for them on my father's farm, where this is tons of room. At lease then I'm not chucking money away monthly on storage!
