I don't think that would be the case with a 1147.

I would say, the pan definitely has to come off.
I hope the OP dosent just keep turning it in the hope it might get better.

It's been so long I don't remember now, I automatically set the rods pointing the right way.
But 1147 rods and crankcase are essentially the same configuration as 1296 SJ.
The 1147/1296 crankcase is rather tight ... so much so that the 1500 crankcase casting had to
be 'ballooned' out to provide enough clearance for the 0.45" longer stroke
Not for the larger rods ... the 1296 BJ uses the same larger rods, crankcase is same size as 1147/1296 SJ.

In reply to # 1504963 by ccren89 This summer I picked up a 66' triumph spitfire that came with all the le mans bits.

new on this forum. What are "all the LeMans bits"?

The Le Mans Spitfires looked like this.

I know what they looked like, however when he said "LeMans bits" I was wondering if he meant 8 port head etc for the 1147..................

An 1147 8 port head would be a rare chunk of Iron indeed.

I have not heard of anyone reproducing them.

I would imagine the OP just has a Hood (bonnet) kit.

Yah, a guy used to race a Spit with VARA in the 90s with the head and webers....in fact had 2 of those SAH supplied heads. Only ones I have ever seen anywhere.

That's why I was curious.

I once had a mustang that when installing a new engine, one wrong bolt that was too long was used the install the fan. Took me awhile to realize it
