Hi Simon
Thank you for your response.Re importing a classic car into Portugal
I am also experiencing similar problems .
My car is a 1980 TR8 ( lhd from the states ) on English plates. The problem is that the
Alfandgers ( customs ) are rating the car with 265 co2/gm/k which equates
to 18800.00 euros importation Tax .This is a complete load of rubbish ,I have
documents from the Uk ,showing a road tax value of 0 co2/gm/k as it is a classic car.
I have Portuguese IMT ( aprovacao de Model ) and a new Portuguese inspection ( valid
for two years ) However without paying 21000,00 euros ,they will not issue me with
a Portuguese Matriculation plate. As a resident I am not allowed to use the car ( which
is now in storage ) They are advising me to export it ,to avoid paying the tax.
Your comments regarding a Historic Vehicle are interesting, I wonder if I could go down this road.I did contact the ACP but with no response.
I live on Faial ( Azores ) and the car will only be used on high days and holidays ,so the mileage
restriction ( if there is one ) will not be a problem.
Please contact me directly at alanw@sapo.pt. your help and advice will be greatly appreciated.
