Not sure anyone is interested in this or has run across it before
Decided to change the oil prior to spring if it ever happens
This is the first time I had changed the oil in the car so I was somewhat surprised and concerned when I found what looked like a steel plug attached to what I thought was a magnetic plug to pick up stray bits in the pan
Pulled it off cleaned it up looking for shear marks or anything else that might clue me into the source
Thinking I now have a potential disaster indide the motor figured I should take some snap shots and ask those in the know. While getting close to take the pic it jumped up and stuck to the phone. It was then I realized the plug was not magnetic but the bit was....
Took only about another 30 minutes of considering why when my brillant mind relized it was an earth magnet that someone had placed on the pkug to act as though it was a magnetic plug. Sometimes it takes me awhile. Someone had a good ideasmiling smiley

Cool. Can't really see a downside to doing that.

I used to drill and half set in longer rare earth magnets into similar hex headed plugs.

I bought one with an imbedded magnet from Moss but the best part is the hex head versus the square head pipe plug.

That is downside enough for me. Magnetic plugs are readily available and not very expensive. About $3 at MMC.
