Blue grease is my usual go for most car applications: heat and water resistant, non-melting/freezing. You could also use lithium white grease

I use silicon grease as it is pretty much the same in very cold and hot conditions.

I don't think it matters that much. The books talk about special grease (without saying why), but the same stuff I use in wheel bearings seems to work fine as long as it gets replaced every 20 or 30 years smiling smiley

Almost anything will be superior to the 'special grease' available back in the day. Not sure what that stuff looked like when new but resembled a glob of beeswax when I opened up the wheelbox.

You might want to be a little careful with that "beeswax". I just found a comment that "Ragosine LIstate" contained lead. Apparently, lead-based compounds were popular as EP additives to grease back then. (Before all the concern over lead being poisonous.)

Ragosine was an oil company, apparently they still exist as ROCOL today.

See if there's an electric motor shop around. They might have a recommendation.
