I republished this topic..The earlier copy got too bogged down

There seems to be renewed interest in a chart that I devised
25+ years ago based on specific information that I had privy to.
It is certainly not 100% accurate, but I've seldom been off by more than 3 days.
I check my information by asking fellow TR3 owners to advise me of the results of their
British Heritage Build Certificate. (for which they pay big $$) I am right on 48.5% of the time.
SO
Answer this post with your Commission number and name & I'll run it for you & post an answer.

If you purchase a Build Certificate in the future, please let me know how far off I was.

I don't have any dates newer than TS83572 , nor do I have anything older than TS8637.
I don't have any TR3B information
Sometimes I go as much as 10 days between visits to this Forum, so be patient
if you don't get an immediate answer.
Frank

If you want to extend your coverage and begin building a TR3B database, TCF575L was built 15June1962.

Not to be too cheeky, Frank, but may I ask about two? The BH certificate for TS63578 L just says December, 1959 (looks like it may have been built just before the Christmas shutdown) and information for TS20222 L was incomplete. Any additional information would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Frank,
I would be interested in your build date of TS81208 LO.
The BMI Certificate indicates build date 12 July 1961, despatch date 12 July 1961.
Shipped to: Cie du Garages Monceau, Paris, France
Built and shipped all on the same day? Yikes!

Hello Colin,
Interesting numbers for TS 81208
My module shows a build date of 04 November 1960, and I've rec'd proof
(other build records for Oct. & Dec.) that prove out that November date.
The TR4 was already in production by early 1961, so TR3s pretty much
ceased by the end of Dec 1960. The total TR3 production for 1961 was
less than 250 cars. 1960 production was over 17,000

This scenario, altho based on facts, is strictly speculation on my part:
Quite often, a TR3 would fail the road test (they were ALL road tested),
be sent back to the factory (not the production line) to be set right. It
already had a commission number but wasn't certified "ready for delivery"
until July 1961. Why did it take 6 months?
Un-owned TR3s were passé in 1961
Since delivery information was more detailed than normal, I'm guessing
it was a special order that needed metric instruments fitted at the last
minute, hence the production write-off date and the delivery date are
the same.

Hi Frank,
This is a great service .. thank you! I'm interested in the details for TS60016 .. it's registered as a 1960, but judging by some of your earlier posts, I'm guessing that the build date was quite some time before that. I really appreciate your help .. I've owned the car for more than 35 years, but know little of its history. This info. may encourage me to look further!
Cheers! Simon.

Simon,
My module shows TS 60016 built on Tuesday, 13 October 1959.
Lots of changes took place at TS60000, most significantly the re-tooled body.
Most noticeable was the hinges were now on raised plinths. (Or not!)
Lots of post 60K owners still had the old style body and a few of the TS59900+
cars had the new body fitted.
One thing I've noticed about production changes at Standard-Triumph:
Nothing is certain!

Frank,
Most interesting .. thanks again! I do have the raised plinths, plus a host of other 'variations' .. but I suspect many of those came from a PO! What matters is that I still love the car, and still drive it regularly, winter and summer. And your estimate of the build date does encourage me to dig deeper into its history. All much appreciated!
Simon.

Dennis,
My module shows TS81125 built on 29 October 1960
The comm# - engine# spread in late 1960 was just over 100, so I'm guessing
your engine is the original. You will need to invest in the build
certificate to verify that of course.

The spread on mine (TS72099, March 1960) is 118

As an aside, someone else who uses this forum owns (or did own)
TS81128

To: Joe Garcia (Starshark)
Joe, Your TR3A, TS 81089 was built on 27 October 1960

I don't know why the Heritage people couldn't find your
record, but I have heard of that happening occasionally.

These records were all hand written so human error was
a big factor in the original cataloging, and also in the
research in the present day.
Care in point:
When I requested my build record many years ago, I
got lots of info but no engine number for my car.
Twenty odd years later I sent a special request
(had to pay for it) to have them check (only) for my
engine number. Got the answer back with a number.
Turns out I have the original engine in my TR3A.
It begs the question...Why couldn't they include that
information the first time???
