This is definitely Triumph related, but the guys deserve more attention and support than they are getting from Triumphworld.

In a Herald Estate, they are driving the Mongol Rally from London to Ulan Ude - yes, I had to look it up. It's a city on the eastern side of Lake Baikal, over 5,000 miles away in Russia. It's as far east from London as Hanoi in Viet-Nam.

Their Facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/mongoltriumph/?hc_ref=ARQoqhKGSauUmg8Lm_29cfG44RE7V46YaWQFJoKjmYOpqpp1kXU9UfF7LumWYoWHl4o&fref=nf

You can follow their progress at http://track.mongoltriumph.com/

Today they are due to enter Iran - these guys are nothing less then intrepid! I've done some endurance drives in the past, to Greece and back, the 10CR etc, but I am as the dust in their wheel tracks - this is an epic Triumph drive!

I just drove to Wisconsin and back in the Spitfire, the roads in Wisconsin beat the hell out of the car. I can't imagine what the roads those guys are driving on would do.

Thank you! I had no idea! I'll enjoy following these guys now.

'unbelievable' is a vastly exaggerated and overused word, so I won't use here; but the execution of that endeavor is, admittedly, tough to believe.

amazing stuff.

They've made it to Samarkand - SAMARKAND! - a name of legend among far travellers since Marco Polo! - and past that to somewhere on the border between the Afghan- and Tjiki-stans. Next stop, CHINA!

http://track.mongoltriumph.com/

The map shows only straight lines between way points, not the actual route, which in this part of the world must be the wiggly line of all wiggly lines.

Thinking of you, guys, mainly in envy!

Our Triumpheroes have overcome a major parts failure!

See: http://forum.tssc.org.uk/topic/3850-reproduction-herald-driveshafts/

I should mention that they are doing this to raise money for charity. Either MacMillan Cancer Support, or Cool Earth.
If you would like to support them, please go to: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/TriumphandTribulations

Part of the testing of the Herald involved driving two of them from Cape Town to Tangiers. The exploit is described in "The Works Triumphs" by Graham Robson. They took an Atlas van (which spent most of the time overheating) and a Standard 10 (which they rolled over) along as support vehicles. The Heralds were in pretty bad shape by the time they got back to England and it is possible that lessons learned were incorporated into production.

So this brilliant expedition is following in some long-ago footsteps.

Our heroes made it to Ulan Ude, yesterday! THEY MADE IT!

See: http://track.mongoltriumph.com/

All they have to do now is come back - and they will be driving that too! No recovery truck, no support teams.

If you apppreciate their enormous achievement, please consider supporting the charities they do:

PS And just to prove it ....
