If you're looking for a rebuilder you might want to speak with Mike Crawford, British MotorWorks in the Boston area [617-320-2647] , Erick Van Sickle of Leyland British in Kennebunkport, ME or Tim Hutchisen of Penn Ridge Motors, Norway, ME. All have good reputations for quality work.

I wish I had rebuilt it myself. Instead I went to that fellow in Connecticut everyone touts- John Esposito- Quantum Mechanics. He sent me an OD gearbox as ordered, I think it cost about $3200 delivered. That is when the relationship broke down. He refused to answer any questions about the wiring for the OD and wouldn't take phone calls. When I finally figured it out I was surprised that he didn't just take a moment to give me a little diagram. Perhaps it was because part of the wiring loom he sent was for a TR6 and the pigtail part we never figured out, mage our own.

When the car was finished I sent it to my son in California who with the mileage I put on has not yet exceeded 300 miles total. The thing leaks a cup of transmission oil on his nice clean garage floor each month. Not the best purchase I have ever made. Anyone think some oatmeal would help, I'm not a fan of Quantum or Esposito?

It's now 10/2018 and Quantum hasn't changed. Gave John $600 toward a new differential. He said 5-6 weeks now 3 months and can't get in touch with him. Trying to get my money back guess I'll have to go to CT attorney general and maybe he could get it.

The delay is most likely being caused by delays in getting parts or by poor quality components that John will reject rather than go ahead and use. John did a tech session for the CT Triumph Register and devoted a part of the session to the problems caused by lack of quality control on the part of suppliers with whom he has to deal. We saw parts that simply would not fit, but the problem goes beyond that into the realms of improper hardening of parts which only surfaced after premature failures started happening.

How have you been trying to contact John? You are probably better off trying to reach him via email than on the phone. In my experience he responds quite quickly to emails.

If you were quoted 5 to 6 weeks and it's shifted to 12 weeks, that's hardly a massive change and quite probably down to delays in getting parts. From personal experience I know John can turn jobs around very quickly if all the parts are to hand, I think my diff rebuild took less than 2 weeks but that was just a simple inspect and repair as needed, no mods or special parts.

If it had only taken 2 weeks to get my diff I would be saying how great he is also. It is a massive change (6 weeks to 3 months) when you get no response and 3 months isn't the end of waiting. I still have no idea when I will get it. When you are 74 yrs old tomorrow can be a lifetime. When you get no response you don't know if they are still in business or not. They could have closed, gone bankrupt or died you don't know. It is apparent from what I have read here that I am not the only one that has the same opinion. He charged my credit card the same day I ordered it and now he won't answer to cancel it and credit my card. I have tried both phone and e-mail neither works.

Again, the delta between 6 weeks and 12 weeks is not exactly a "massive" delay. I agree communication would improve matters for you, I've never had that issue with John so I am not sure why you are being ignored.

I have an order with him for a Stag gearbox with an A type overdrive. I knew going in that this would take a while because he has to find rebuildable units for me. And yes, I put down a deposit for it, I would not expect to do business any other way because I am sure there are plenty of people who've ordered custom jobs and then walked away.

What exactly are you having John build for you? Since you've only been on the site for 2 days and made three posts to complain about Quantum Mechanics there's nothing to tell us what kind of vehicle you have or why you need a new diff as opposed to having one rebuilt. He has plenty of rebuildable cores for the more common cars but if you're after something out of the ordinary spec I'd imagine that triggers orders to suppliers for the parts you need, and that ends up a bit out of John's control. I know from talking with him that he has to source parts from all over the world in order to get the job done, many of his specialist suppliers are also small or one-man band outfits and delays are inevitable. Probably doesn't calm you down, but that's the reality of it.

I should probably emphasize I have no connection with Quantum other than as a customer.

John finally communicated with me. That is really all it took. continuing the order with him for now. I agree with you he is knowledgeable and a gentleman he just needs bed side manner especially for customers that don't know him or never ordered from him before

Glad to hear this news and I hope your diff will be done soon.

My OD & gearbox still leaks as it did since I bought it new from John Esposito at Quantum. For what he charges his service stinks. My experience was that he doesn't return calls or emails, produces shoddy work and his expensive wiring accessories had nothing to do with my TR3, had to make my own and he was no help with the wiring diagram. He either doesn't know how to wire the OD or he felt guilty selling the wrong parts.

Certainly a variety of experiences in this thread. I have been driving (TR4) with the OD unit John sold me for 12 years now. Easy to install, harness a perfect match, no issues.

Customer service is sometimes the weak link in one-man operations (I think it is one-man) as the technical skill set is of little help when it comes to communication.

At least someone reading this can be aware of what others have encountered and hopefully decide for themselves.
