Clicked on your two Triumphs, they both look real nice. Are the hubcaps on the black one originals? Because they look an awful lot like the ones from a 1963 Mercury Comet. Also, isn't that the car James May made into a sailboat on Top Gear?

Yes, those are original wheel covers on the '67 convertible. Triumph called them Air-Flow wheel covers, and they are essentially the same as optional wheel covers seen on early Corvairs and Plymouth Valiants...and, in slightly modified form, early AMC Gremlins! I'll have to check out the Mercury Comet connection, as I wasn't aware of that one!

From the more than you wanted to know department: These wheel covers were made by a company called Del-Met, out of Walton, NY (coincidentally, where my brother grew up and where a few ancestors are buried as well). As used on Heralds and Spitfires, these were actually "sided" in that the little radial scoops drew air in supposedly to cool the wheels and brakes. Most were even ink-stamped LEFT or RIGHT on the inside!
