In reply to # 1306089 by mmgwhite RS/37971-L Has build date of 22 Oct., 1958

Does anybody know what build date dealers started calling these October cars as 1959 cars??
My orig registration says 1959
Matison
It varies widely; dealers always sold them as "this years model" no matter how long they had been sitting on the lot (or not). But October 58 would almost certainly be sold as a 59, if not some later year.

In reply to # 1306143 by 6TTR3A For some unknown reason Standard Triumph SKIPPED from TS47957
to TS50000, some 2043 numbers. The "skip" took place on or about 16 April 1959

Very old quote, but I missed it before. You don't think the "skip" was because of the substantial (and incompatible) changes that took place starting with TS50000? Starter, flywheel, gearbox and gearbox cover/tunnel all changed at the same time.

Some mix and match is possible; but the starter has to match the flywheel, the early gearbox won't fit the later starter, and the later gearbox won't fit under the early cover.

Frank, I don't know if you are still working on this project, but if you are, check out TS68710 L, and also TS53907 L O.

By the way, how many cars have you located?

Thanks,
Jim

Frank, thanks for your help. I'm still in the planning stage for this car and want to make the correct color choices for it. I was hoping it was actually a 58 becuase I like the interior color choices better. I will paint the car in it's original color but do not want the original black interior.

When I do get the BMHT certificate I'll give you the information that shows.

Bill

A little harder because that quarter is when they were
skipping comm. numbers; who knows why.
Anyway I came up with 16 June 1959
