Good catch, I missed that before. I would not dismiss a gear drive starter as a source of trouble, since I've had several problems with mine (on a TR3). Most recently, the quick connect to the solenoid became intermittent. It was just barely loose enough to wiggle a bit, still hard to pull off, but that little wiggle was enough to make it sometimes do the "click-nothing" trick. I've also had to change the bearings in it, and it really could use new brushes as well.. The solenoid contacts haven't died yet, but they sure look nasty; I'll probably try to change them next time as well.
