It really is. Especially in the spring. Not only poppies, but lupines and mustard. Most of the side roads around there are incredible! Best driving in the country!

You really need to get a Go Pro camera and stick it on the dash for these trips. The views on the canyon roads are gorgeous based on the Google maps street views. I went as far as the Placerita Canyon Road and it was a point and click marathon to do that, even skipping large sections of road.I'm afraid that's as close as I'm going to get for the foreseeable future.

California has some of the best driving in the world. We're NOT all freeways. Get into the back country, esp. the central coast and WOW! I thought of a Go Pro, but A) I'd rather spend the money on the car, and I don't want to provide evidence! :-)
